Health & Safety
SAFETY FIRST-ALWAYS
Working on large-scale projects across remote and metropolitan regions of Western Australia, ProTrade Contracting places safety at the forefront of everything we do. Safety is not merely a regulatory requirement or a client expectation — it is a core value embedded in our company culture and consistently applied across all our services, in every environment.
Whether our team is painting commercial facilities, installing vinyl flooring in accommodation and communal spaces, or fitting out plasterboard in new dining or wet mess areas, we never compromise on safety. We recognise that every project presents unique risks and hazards, and we take a proactive, structured approach to identifying, managing, and mitigating those risks.
At ProTrade Contracting, safety is a shared responsibility. Every team member is empowered and accountable for maintaining a safe worksite, looking out for one another, and upholding best-practice standards at all times.
Safety isn’t a checkbox for us — it’s part of our identity.
Meeting the Highest Safety Standards
Our clients operate under rigorous safety and compliance frameworks, and ProTrade Contracting consistently meets — and exceeds — these expectations. We adhere to all applicable safety standards required by our clients and by law, including Western Australia’s construction and workplace health and safety regulations, as well as project-specific site rules and contractor management systems.
Every ProTrade Contracting team member holds the appropriate qualifications, inductions, and medical clearances relevant to their scope of work. Our crews arrive on site fully compliant, having completed all mandatory training and documentation in advance, allowing projects to commence smoothly without compliance delays.
We enforce strict adherence to site-specific procedures at all times, including permit-to-work systems, isolation and lock-out processes, and PPE requirements. Safety documentation, toolbox talks, risk assessments, and SWMS are embedded into our daily operations and actively reinforced by supervisors on site.
By aligning our systems with those of Tier-1 builders, developers, and principal contractors, ProTrade Contarcting integrates seamlessly into any project’s safety management framework. The outcome is confidence and peace of mind for our clients — knowing their project is delivered by a contractor that prioritises safety, compliance, and professionalism at every stage.
Our Safety Practices
At ProTrade Contracting, our tradespeople are required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and follow best-practice methods to protect themselves, their teammates, and others on site. Safety is proactively managed through structured systems and daily practices that actively engage every team member, from site supervisors to trades.
Key components of our safety management approach include:
Toolbox Talks
We conduct regular Toolbox Talks — short, focused safety meetings held on site, typically at the start of the day or shift. These sessions review the day’s work scope, identify potential hazards, reinforce site rules, and share relevant safety alerts or lessons learned.
Take 5 Risk Assessments
Before commencing any task, our workers complete a “Take 5” — a quick but effective risk assessment to identify hazards, assess controls, and confirm the task can be carried out safely.
Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
For higher-risk, non-routine, or complex activities, we prepare formal Job Hazard Analyses to ensure risks are identified and controlled prior to work commencing.
Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS)
Where required by legislation or client protocols, ProTrade Services develops and implements detailed Safe Work Method Statements to guide safe execution of high-risk construction activities.
Internal Safety Policies & Procedures
ProTrade Contracting maintains robust internal safety policies, procedures, and handbooks that underpin all site activities. These systems align with principal contractor and Tier-1 builder requirements and are consistently enforced across all projects.
Continuous Improvement & Safety Culture
Fostering a strong safety culture is just as important to us as having the right paperwork and procedures. Safety is everyone’s responsibility at ProTrade Contracting – from management through to supervisors and our trades personnel.
We also believe in continuous improvement when it comes to health and safety. Our dedicated Health and Safety Consultant regularly reviews our H&S policies and procedures, ensuring they remain effective, up-to-date, and aligned with current industry best practices and client expectations.
Ultimately, our goal is simple: everyone goes home safe and healthy each day. This unwavering commitment to health and safety has built trust with our clients and a proud record of safe project delivery.
